Frosted Vase

I live in Augusta, GA- oh yeaaa.. the Masters Golf Tournament city. The whole city will burst with people and fun will be in the air. Signs for "Buying Tickets" and "Selling Tickets" on the road are already up. 2 weeks are going to fly by. With our house being on rent... I am trying to clean up and get it ready. I have to put away as many personal things away as possible. Clearing the dresser in our room means empty space and 2 more empty dresser tops in other 2 room. I thought of rummaging through all the decorative things I have. Found 3 vases and 1 candle display stand/bowl. Candle Display bowl is ready to go with the decorative stones and 3 pillar candles. But the vases were too blah.

I had seen a pin about frosting vases on Pinterest =) but apparently I did not repin it on my board. Anywaz so I had bought the Frost paint on my last shopping spree. I decided to go ahead with it. I knew I could put rubber bands and just spray the frost on.

This is the frost spray I found at my local Michaels Store. Cost me around 7$ but I am going to be able to paint 3 vases (maybe even more) out of 1 can.

Next I put rubber bands of different widths (thought it would be interesting) on the vase.
Then I sprayed it with the Frosted Glass Spray. Just follow directions on the can. One thing, for sure you want to do this in open space...outside.... backyard, front yard!! I knew it...but i still decided to do this inside and the smell is still lingering in the house :D

The can says to give 30 minutes for drying and wait 1 hr before handling it, I let it dry for 1 hr. After an hour, remove the rubber bands and you have your pretty little frosted vase :D
I am working on 2 more. Those vases are more rounder and I am thinking of using some yarn. Will update the post with pictures of those=)
Until next time,

Live, Love, Laugh, Believe, Dream.....

Making art for bedroom is the toughest...especially the master bedroom...where you always want to make it more cozy and special. The way our house is built...the master is on the main level while the other bedrooms are in basement and 1 upstairs. So whenever people come, they always see the master for sure. Until now I just 1 wall hanging in our bedroom- a frame with blessings from friends and family member- was a wedding gift from a friend and a full length mirror that I found in Kirklands. The rest of the walls are plain empty. Now in the future I do want to paint one of the walls a nice shade of blue. But for now, I had to make something.

So I had this photo holder wall piece I took from my friend (she was moving and could not take it with her). She had bought it from Pier 1. It is pretty nice with groves on both sides to slide photos on. It can be hung vertical or horizontal.

Now the original plan was to find letters to make GAME TIME and hang it from here and put it in game room... but it went in absolute different direction (my previous post GAMETIME). When I went to buy something for that project, I saw wooden words Live, Laugh, Love, Believe and Dream in Michaels- absolutely love that store. Anyways so I bought the words and painted them with Gesso.

White would have been fine. But my wallas are like mustard shade... and all the furniture in the bedroom is dark brown... and I do intend to paint that wall a shade of blue... so I thought I could do some color Pop. I went ahead and painted them red.

Now I had to decide how I wanted to hang it from the photo holder. I had option of Photo hanger, ribbon, Natural fiber thread or fish line. I bought photo hanger wire... but it did not look great... So I tried ribbon..did not like it either... and was too bored to go buy the fish line...too eager to finish the project today itself =) so used the natural fiber in brown color. I hot glued the fibers to the letters and hung them of the holder.

Of course I played with the lengths first. Placed the words up and down and then cut the thread accordingly. I had to glue the thread on one side of the word first, then pass it through the holes (that were for holding photos) and then glued the other side.

Finally I have something interesting on my bedroom wall now :D
Every morning will start with some positive thoughts of the wall-- LIVE each day as its your last, LOVE all, LAUGH always, BELIEVE in yourself and DREAM on =)

Until Next time,
Happy Krafting

GAME TIME

It has been a while that I blogged about something new I made. I have been working on several projects together..I know I know...but I go shop for items for project 1 and end up with project 2 items as well ;) Anywaz so I've been working on making wall pieces for my Game/Exercise room- made the Rack Em frame, Sweat once a day and now this... So I wanted to use wooden letters to make GAMETIME wall art and hang the letters off something... now mind you this was my original idea. But you know how ideas are... you start with something and as you start working the whole idea takes another route.

So I go shopping for some wooden letters. On a previous shopping expedition I had bought 5 wooden frames for another purpose. But instead bought 3 more frames... and decided to cut out letters using designer paper and make frame like art and hang them.

These are simple wood frames sold at Michaels for $1 a piece. Now 3 of them broke and I had to use Gorilla Glue to put them together. That is one strong glue =)

I used Gesso to paint the frames. Gesso is base paint to prep non porous surfaces. I had seen people use it on their projects and have heard it helps a lot. I had not found it until my last shopping trip to Michaels.

The frames came with a little chipboard backing that had ideas to decorate the frame. I just covered it with black Cardstock to give a dark base. With stencils, I cut out GAMETIME in a designer paper and used 3-d Glue foams to pop the letters up.

Finally I put the letters in the frame. But that white gesso was not what I wanted. I had bought some brown paint as well, but did not want to cover the whole frame brown as well. So instead I used some Distress ink ( Tim Holtz Collection)- Brown and Olive colors. I just swiped the ink pads over the frame. I loved how it turned out =)

Now that I was happy about how it looked, it was time to hang it up. Instead of hanging it of something. I just used Command velcro strips to stick them to the wall.

Another view:
One last time =)

yayyy for another wall art finally on the wall =)

Until next time,

Cheap Calendar

My Project of the day- Cheap little calendar that I can change every month according to season and Month =)

So I had found this scrapbook frame ( 12"x 12") that was on sale in Michaels. The glass was missing. Originally the frames cost $9.99 but since the glass were missing, they were $1 each. I picked up 2.

So now I had seen a calendar project using a similar 12"x 12" frame. But that one had a glass. So I thought maybe I could design 12"x12" calendar pages on Photoshop elements software and then get them printed at an office store. But while roaming around Hobby Lobby's speciality paper section, I found Acetate calendar- a blank calendar with days of the week written and blank squares for you to put date. It cost me $1.99.

So I bought it, came home and put a nice 12"x12" scrapbook designer paper (used Everyday Enchantment DSP from Stampin' Up!) and layered the Acetate Calendar on it.

Using whiteboard pens... I put the month and dates on the calendar.

Simple and easy...ready for the wall.

While writing this post, I am already thinking of how I could make it more fun... maybe use some die cut small alphabets to write the months out on strips of CS that can be changed as a month comes =)

Until Next time,
Happy Krafting,

WHERE WE MET, MARRIED, and LIVE

This is another Pinterest inspired project that I made as a gift for my friend I visited this past weekend. We definitely had some fun... outlet shopping, ziplining and chilling out. Since I was going first time to see her after she moved there with post marriage, I wanted to take something on behalf of all friends. She had seen this on Pinterest and we had talked about it that she wanted to make it. So nothing like making it and taking as a gift ;)

It was a easy project of using a floating frame, some maps and little labels. It was about cutting out maps of where they met, married and now live. Luckily, in her cases all the 3 places were different so it was easy to make. Me on the other side cannot make it since my met and married places r the same :(  Anywaz, so using a Heart die cut, I cut out the maps and the mat. Then I printed the words Where we, Met, Married, Live on a white cardstock and punched them out. Using a double sided tape I stuck the images and words and voila, the frame was ready :D

Funky Gift Card Holder

Continuing with trying something new......I came across this website www.stampington.com a very long time ago. It is a Publication company that publishes umpteen number of Art and Crafting Magazines. I was trying to find a cupcake template for a friends birthday (was leaving her a surprise of cupcakes, so wanted it to decorate the box). Google took me there. Now this website has some a Studio Section with ideas and instructions for free projects, video tutorials, limited but free templates and like. I copied down most of the templates ;)-- had to!!!

Anywaz... So this time I decided to try the Funky Folder- would be a cute little gift card holder I thought and one of my friends birthday today so I thought I could make this for her =) 1 stone-2 birds-- Stone being Funky Folder, Bird 1 being my desire to try it and Bird 2 being something for my friend :D

So here is what I made-

Funky Folder/Gift Card Holder

Let me see if I can put down the instructions in words ;)

1. Start with printing the template and putting it on tracing pape
2. Then I traced the template on a Designer Cardstock paper and cut it out. I sponged the edges using Old Olive ink (SU ink).

3. The other side of this cardstock is white, so I lined the inside with an Old Olive Cardstock in the rectangular area. I wanted to write in there so I decided to do it.

 4. Next I made holes on the flaps using a 1/16th" hole punch. I made them at edge overlaying each other- not realizing that would make it difficult to open it. So I punched holes a little inside.
So you see 2 holes on each flap (hey its handmade... errors happen :D). So I put 1 brad on one flap (Pic on right). Wrapped ribbon around it and took both the edges to the opposite flap (Pic on left) and pushed them through the hole. Finally pushed a brad and sealed it (no glue...yayyy).

5. Since I had 2 holes on the edges of the flap... I created a tag and tied it to one of the holes on the flaps.

FINAL PRODUCT:

Just insert a gift card or a little note or money and give it away :D

Will keep looking for new things and try making them.

Until next time,

Cheers
