IRIS FOLD VALENTINE

Absolutely Love Love Love Iris Fold... it just makes cards look so different and beautiful. For those who don't know what Iris Fold is... It is folding different designer papers and stick in a template. It can be used in scrapbook or to make cards and add an extra depth. I had tried it once and made a tulip. Google Iris Fold and you will find tonnes of free template that you can print. It looks something like the following picture

I tried tulip once for a friend of mine. This time since Valentine is close... I found a heart and tried it on a card...

Super easy- print the template...copy it on tracing paper... template has all the lines and tells what all numbers should have the same color. Trace the heart outline on the paper you want to work with, cut it out and tape it on the printed paper to glue the strips on. I got this one from http://circleofcrafters.com/irisfolding/irisfoldingheart.html it has step by step instructions... So go ahead try it...trust me you can't really go wrong with this :D

Until Next time...

Valentines is coming

Valentines day is pretty close.. with this new job, now I have time to work on cards and list them on Etsy =)

So here is the first card I made using the new Hearts Collection Framelit Die #125599. Put 2 frames together to make the outline heart. Simple and Cute.

What I did with the heart that came out of the center of the frame you ask?? USE IT ofcourse... I'm a stamper... we try to use everything possible (learned it from my scrap loving friend :D)

Used the whole heart from previous card to make this card. This was like killing 2 birds with one stone ;)

Until Next time,

Color Dots

The past weekend has been fun... its always good to have friends over...2 of my friends come over every weekend to stay and I love it... staying up late, waking up and having company for breakfast is always good. Sunday was spent flying Kites. So after the Kite flying was over, we had late lunch (at 3:30 :D) and they had to leave. Come home and sit with computer, getting on pinterest/facebook/ Stampin Connection etc while my darling husband snoozed away while the Giants and packers played their game.

With dullness around, I decided to go ahead with my 2nd wall art. I had all the supplies, just needed to make it. My inspiration was from: http://twogirlsbeingcrafty.blogspot.com/2011/02/painted-wall-art-for-non-artists.html Now my art completely does not look like theirs... I did not fill in the circles like they did... but I am pretty happy with what I made. It is already hanging on my guest 1/2 bath =)

So I love it... looks pretty in the bathroom :D
Until Next time,

Hold Those Ribbons

My obsession with pinterest and the little spare time I have are making me crazeee.....Crazy about trying new things and actually making them =). I made this 2 days ago but did not get time to put it up... Ribbon holder/Organizer. YES..again seen on Pinterest (not surprised are we hahahaha :D)

So with the wall art I made ... I had 4 pieces of wood left- each measuring 12"x12". While browsing pinterest I saw someone had a pic of ribbon holder made of piece of wood block and some dowels glued on it. I will be honest...never worked with wood before, inspite went to walmart and bought 5/16" x 36" long dowels- 2 of them. I cut the dowels in 12" pieces... so got 6 pieces out of the 2 long ones. I started with gluing the dowels on the wood with Gorilla Glue (WORKS--Super hold) but it was hard to keep the dowels standing (glue does take sometime to dry-needed to be clamped).

So using an electric power tool tried making hole...but not having the right attachments made it a disastrous task. But I managed it... as soon as I got the hole big enough for the dowels to fit in... I hammered the dowels to make the holes right size. Removed the dowels...put some gorilla glue..hammered down the dowels and let it dry for 24 hrs.

So here is how it looked.... Yes I went overboard with the glue, infact even had spread some glue on the outside once I hammered the dowels..see the white cloud looking things around the dowels on the wood ;).

So of course I was excited when the glue dried... I was all ready to put my ribbons on it.

I arranged them according to width.... although color would be nice too.... but for me, sorting them by width just seemed easier :D

It was fun to make this holder.... planning to make 1 more for sure... only thing I would change here would be the dowel size... would probably use 1/8" or 1/4" inch dowels :D

Try it out... easy, cheap and super way to oragnize your ribbons :D

Until Next time...

Tissue Box Cover

I have been out of work for a week now- in between jobs. This is good time for me to get back to my krafts =) and try and make new things (OH HOW I HAVE MISSED THAT!!) My house and Craft room need some re-organizing. It will be 2 years this year that we have moved into the house and I never really got to decorating it. So I thought it was time to decorate the walls-bring some color in =) that led to making of the Wall Art I posted few days ago.

So while I work on things around the house, I have to make sure my craft room is clean too...just had to clean it up... did not take much to do that. As soon as I could see the table I knew I wanted to make something. Lately, I have been all over pinterest (I think i mentioned this in the Wall Art posting as well haha). So few days ago on pinterest, I see this felt tissue cover made for Tissue boxes, but did not have 14"x14" felt-so never made it. Then today I see a paper Tissue box cover..made of cardstocks. Clicked on the picture...it took me a to a blog that led me to splitcoaststampers.com... It had step by step instructions for the Tissue Box Cover (click on it to see the tutorial)  I love the gals at splitcoaststampers. They keep coming with innovative ideas and wonderful tutorials :D.

So here is my version of the Tissue Box cover... love it...how I can change it depending on the season...That is always good =)

Cleaning up the craft room has led me to have strips of carstocks that are too tiny or weirdly shaped to use in cards and scrapbooks... So might have to come up with some use for them...scrap paper art ;)

Until Next time,

Happy Krafting =)

Shelving Board Wall art

Feels like ages I made any crafts... Oh Wait...IT HAS BEEN AGES.... I did make few cards here and there... but not like I spent good quality time crafting. Lately I have been on pinterest a lot... I did not even want to join- but one of my friends who got hooked on did not stop raving about it... she convinced another friends of ours to join... now friend number 2 raved as well.... the curious bug in me had to check it out... Lo-Behold...it is addictive... ABSOLUTELY ADDICTIVE.... I spend most of my free time on pinterest now and gathered awesome ideas especially crafting and do-it-your self kinds.

So while I pinning ideas on my boards, I came across few ideas that I thought were doable. And with the time I have on my hand right now...I had to work on them. So here is Project 1: Shelving Board Wall Art. Hardware store bought wood, covered with scrapbook paper, a little stamping and voila...a wonderful art piece for my bare walls.
I went to Lowes and asked them for some shelving board... they thought I needed it to make shelves so they showed me a decent quality one... it cost me 12$ and $0.25 to get it cut the way I wanted. But best bucks spent. The board measures 1 ft by 8 ft. I wanted 12" by 12" blocks and could get 8. Although the 8 blocks is tad smaller than 12", still workable.

I painted the sides of the blocks with brown paint, found the right scrapbook paper (considering I scrapbook and make cards...have tonnes of it), glued it to the block. The paper were pretty simple, so I misted them with gold shimmer and rubbed using paper towel-to spread the shimmer. Also sponged some Early Espresso ink on the sides and all over the paper to give a hint of brown. To me the blocks still looked bare. So I decide to stamp- decided to use the medallion with Early Espresso Ink. Final touch- a red gemstone in the middle of each medallion.

It might not be perfect, but considering it is my first attempt, I simply love it. Spent $12.25 to make this wonderful art piece that is going to go on my wall tomorrow. Will definitely put the pic of how it looks on the wall =)

here is how the art looks on the wall :D

Until next time,

Happy krafting!!
